Ever feel like your life is just one giant performance for a crowd that never stops judging?
Between the “For You” page, the school hallways, and the pressure to have the perfect “fit” or the highest grades, it feels like you’re constantly being ranked. How you look, how many followers you have, and how well you perform seem to be the only things that matter.
But there’s a massive “life hack” in Islam that flips this entire script. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Allah does not look at your appearance or your wealth, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.” (Sahih Muslim)
Here’s why this matters for your mental health and your faith.
The Glitch in the System
Society tries to tell you that your value is external. It’s measured in:
- Aesthetics: Having the “right” look.
- Influence: How many people notice you.
- Flexing: What you own or what you’ve achieved.
The problem? This system is broken. Trends die, standards change, and someone will always “look” better or have more. If you build your confidence on these things, your self-worth will always be on shaky ground.
When you base your worth in Allah swt, the world’s opinion loses its power over you. You stop pretending and start growing. If the Creator of the Universe already knows your heart and values your effort, whose approval are you still scrolling for?
Allah’s Metric is Different
Allah swt doesn’t use a filter. He doesn’t care about your follower count or your bank balance. His “ranking system” is stable and fair. He looks at:
- Your Intentions: Why you do what you do.
- Your Sincerity: Who you are when the camera is off, and no one is watching.
- Your Struggle: The effort you put in, even when you fail.
In Islam, worth isn’t a competition. Your value doesn’t go down just because someone else is getting more attention.
“Likes” Fade
When we live for external validation, three things usually happen:
- Insecurity grows: One “mean” comment or a bad photo can wreck your entire week.
- Identity crisis: You start “main-character-masking” by changing your personality to fit in.
- Zero peace: You’re stuck in a loop of comparison, which is basically the thief of all joy.
“Purpose” Lasts
When you realize that Allah swt is the only audience that truly matters, you gain “quiet strength.”
- Bad Hair Day? Doesn’t matter. Allah swt sees the beauty in your heart.
- Felt invisible at school? Allah swt saw that kind thing you did when no one was looking.
- Failed a test despite studying? Allah swt rewards the effort and patience, not just the A+.
When you base your worth in Allah swt, the world’s opinion loses its power over you. You stop pretending and start growing. You don’t need to be perfect; you just need to be real.
If the Creator of the universe already knows your heart and values your effort, whose approval are you still scrolling for?
Next time you feel a dip in your confidence because of a post or a comment, take 30 seconds to breathe and remind yourself: “My worth is rooted in Allah swt, and He already sees the best in me.”
