Are you having those 3:00 AM thoughts where you’re lowkey panicking about your future? You’re wondering if you’ll get into the right college, land a high-paying job, or if you’ll ever actually “make it” in life.
Most people spend their entire lives stressing over two things: how long they’re going to live and how much money they’re going to make. But here’s the twist: both of those things are already written.
The “Grind” Trap
We’ve all heard the same repetitive script:
Study hard → Get straight A’s → Secure the dream job → Get rich
Sounds logical, right? But this mindset often turns into a trap. We start prioritizing grades and “hustle culture” over everything else including our connection with Allah SWT.
- We’ll pull an all-nighter for a midterm but sleep right through Fajr.
- We say, “I’ll focus on my Deen once I’ve built my career,” like we’re guaranteed that time.
Hard work is important, but your paycheque doesn’t come from your boss or your degree. It comes from Ar-Razzaq.
Our rizq comes from Allah, not from Our job. Our job is just a means through which Allah gives us what He’s already decided to give
Rizq is Predestined
In the Qur’an, Allah SWT says:
“Indeed, Allah alone is the Supreme Provider — Lord of all Power, Ever Mighty.” (Surah Al-Dhariyat, 51:58).
Think of Rizq (provision) like a pre-ordered package. One of Allah’s names is Ar-Razzaq, The Provider. He feeds everyone and everything from the microscopic organisms in the ocean to the Blue Whale, largest animal to have ever existed.
- Your parents’ salary? That’s Rizq.
- That random $20 you found in your jacket? Rizq.
- The meal you just ate? Total Rizq.
Your “slice of the pie” is already fixed. No amount of “grinding” can get you more than what Allah SWT has written for you, and no amount of bad luck can take away what belongs to you.
“So… Can I Just Stay in Bed?”
Nope! Understanding that Rizq is fixed isn’t an excuse to be lazy or fail your classes. Allah commands us in the Qur’an to go out and “seek His bounty” after we finish our prayers.
Like in a video game the “loot” is already programmed into the level, but you must play the game and complete the quest to find it.
- Your job: Work with sincerity and give it your best shot.
- Allah’s job: Handle the outcome.
True Freedom
Ever heard of Mus’ab ibn Umair? He was the high-fashion influencer of Makkah. He wore the best clothes from Syria and the trendiest shoes from Yemen. When he became Muslim, his family cut him off and he lost all his luxury.
Was he stressed? No. He was happier because he realized true success isn’t about the size of your bank account, it’s about Allah SWT being happy with you. He knew that what was written for him would find him anyway and what was not meant for him would not reach him even if it is between his two fingertips.
When you realize Allah is your Provider…
- You stop being a “people pleaser” because you know your boss (or your teacher) doesn’t control your future.
- You stop being stingy because you know Allah SWT will always replace what you give.
- You stop worrying about the “what ifs” and start living with peace.
Don’t let the fear of “not making it” stop you from doing what’s right. Work hard, but don’t let the hustle own your soul.
The next time you’re feeling stressed about a test or your future career, take 30 seconds to make a quick Du’a: “Ya Razzaq, I’m doing my best, so I leave the results to You.” What’s one area of your life where you’ve been prioritizing “the grind” over your relationship with Allah SWT?
