In your school, or at your workplace, you’ve probably had someone ask you, “How do you know the Qur’an is true?” Maybe it was a friend, maybe it was a thought you had yourself at 2am.
This isn’t a question you have to dodge. There’s a solid answer. Let’s break it down.
What is the Qur’an saying about itself?
Right at the start of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:2), Allah swt says:
“This is the Book in which there is no doubt, a guidance to Al-Muttaqeen.”
Two things to unpack here:
- Al-Muttaqeen: The God-conscious are guided by the ayahs of the Qur’an and increase in their guidance.
- The Disbelievers: When they are guided by the ayahs, they become believers and become from the Muttaqoon.
It works like a fitness app. Athletes use it and get better. But if regular people start using it, they become athletes! The Qur’an works the same way for your soul.
Is the Qur’an the Book of Allah?
This is where it gets genuinely interesting.
We can’t “call Allah swt” and ask what He wants. So either He communicated with us, or we’re all guessing at life. As Muslims, we believe Allah swt sent prophets and messengers throughout history. They were real people with real miracles that proved their connection to Allah swt.
- Prophet Musa (as) parted the Red Sea by striking with his staff.
- Prophet Isa (as) healed the blind and sick people.
- Prophet Sulayman (as) communicated with animals and controlled the winds.
But how do we know those were not just legends? Those miracles happened once, for that era. We can’t rewind and watch.
That’s why the Qur’an is different.
The Living Miracle
The Quran isn’t a miracle you had to be there for. It’s here right now, on your phone, in your hands. And it comes with a challenge that has never been beaten in 1,400+ years.
Here’s what Allah swt said:
وَإِن كُنتُمْ فِى رَيْبٍۢ مِّمَّا نَزَّلْنَا عَلَىٰ عَبْدِنَا فَأْتُوا۟ بِسُورَةٍۢ مِّن مِّثْلِهِۦ وَٱدْعُوا۟ شُهَدَآءَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
And if you are in doubt about what We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a sûrah like it and call your helpers other than Allah, if what you say is true.
One Surah. The shortest one, Surah Al-Kawthar, is three sentences long.
Think about that. The greatest poets in Arab history, people who spent months in the desert perfecting their craft, couldn’t match three sentences. And it’s not like no one tried, the enemies of Islam were desperate to prove it wrong. They had every reason to. They just… couldn’t.
Maybe Muhammad (saw) Wrote It Himself?
Solid question. Let’s think it through:
- Muhammad (saw) was Arab, so if Arabs couldn’t match it, neither could he
- We have his actual words (hadith) preserved separately and scholars notice the style is completely different from the Quran
Has Anyone Found a Contradiction Yet?
Nope. And Allah swt literally challenges us to look:
“Do they not ponder the Quran? If it had come from other than God, they would surely have found many contradictions.” The Holy Qur’an [4:82]
Muslim and non-Muslim scholars have studied it for centuries. Not a single verified contradiction. Plus, copies of the Quran from the very first century of Islam (you can visit them in Istanbul) match word for word with what you read today.
No other ancient religious text can claim that.
What Does This Mean For Us?
Once you establish through understanding, faith, and belief, and not “because my parents said so” that:
Allah swt exists
And The Quran is His word
…then the next step is that You believe in everything the Qur’an tells you.
And we don’t get to pick and choose the parts we like. That’s not how it works. Accepting the Qur’an means accepting it as a whole: the prayers, the guidelines, the hijab, the relationships, to how we deal with money, etc. All of it comes from the same trustworthy source, the Qur’an.

Here’s something worth sitting with this week: If someone challenged you right now, “Give me one reason to believe the Qur’an is real,” could you answer them?
If not, that’s okay. But now you’ve got a starting point. Do a bit of your own digging. Look up the challenges of the Qur’an. Read about its linguistic miracle. Ask your imam or a knowledgeable person in your community to go deeper with you.
Your faith is worth building on solid ground, not an inherited habit.
